Land of Woods, Land of Forests
Land of Woods
The Land of Woods do not officially possess a hidden village, but they do admit to training up hand-picked shinobi as elite ANBU. Those ANBU called the Prajñā Group, wield sword-length kunai and are considered exceptionally dangerous. The Land of Woods is not particularly friendly toward the Land of Fire, and has in the past made treaties only to betray Fire immediately. The primary reason their country has remained allied with Fire this time probably has to do with the unrecognized shinobi village inside their borders.
Hidden Village - Yumegakure
While Woods doesn't acknowledge the village officially, most other shinobi villages are aware of the one hidden in Woods anyway. Yumegakure is located in a deep forest full of haze in the Land of Woods. Shinobi of this village are known for their transformation techniques, and the ability to turn into creatures to aid in combat. Yumegakure is in possession of a creature close to the level of a tailed beast, and therefore has an alliance with Konoha to keep it sealed. Until recently, the village had fallen into poverty and in-fighting, and now has been making efforts to stabilize their economy.
Land of Forests
A land so thickly forested that only natives can navigate it and hidden nature has led to stories of the forest being enchanted. A river flows through the middle of it which allows foreigners to pass by the land. The land has no hidden village, nor does it have shinobi. Instead, it is guarded by civilian soldiers, typically heavily armored and armed with swords, lances, or bows, who are notably well-skilled, however, and can navigate the forests of the land with ease.
Although it has a military, Forests is a largely civilian nation, which keeps to itself, and possesses an isolationist and at times almost xenophobic attitude due to the land excluding most outsiders by nature of its terrain.
Kuukyo
Kuukyo is the seat of the government in the Land of Forests, and therefore the town which they allowed the single travel seal within the nation to be placed. The actual seal is several miles away from the town proper, and visitors must be guided to the city once they arrive, or risk being lost in the forest forever. The town itself is quiet, and due to its lack of many merchants (save for those who have recently begun to set up shop due to the travel seal) can appear quite empty. Within the walls of its palace and town halls, however, activity rarely ever ceases, and those who live in the town usually find it to be quite cozy. There are few defenses in the city short of a tall wooden wall around it, as residents believe the land itself will ward off most attackers.
Yamishiro
A lone tower left from a time when Forests was more actively engaged with the Shinobi world and involved in a previous world war. Its isolated location and jutting spires make it appear ominous and foreboding to onlookers, and the overgrowth beginning to overtake the building makes it appear much older than it is, earning the moniker it now possesses. The fortress is uninhabited, and too far from Forest supply lines to easily be inhabited even by natives. Still, some natives claim to see fires burning in the upper windows of the fortress at night when they pass by it.
Kaiho
The closest thing Forests has to a harbor city, the one sign of civilization built along the river that foreigners must navigate to pass through their land. It's a lively town, made entirely out of wooden structures and leafy accessories. Citizens of Kaiho are considerably more friendly and outgoing toward strangers who wander through the town than most denizens of Forests. There is still a fortress with an active military presence within it, however.
Tsuri no Ko
A small island packed so densely with trees that to those passing by on boat, it may not appear to have any room to spare on it. Residents of Forests claim that it has certain magical properties, but travel to it by any nation allowed to use Forest's river for travel is strictly forbidden by their treaties.
Forest River
A wide and winding river which cuts through the middle of the Land of Forests almost its entire length, originating in the northern part of the country and eventually emptying into the southern sea. For foreigners who are unable to navigate the thick forests of the country, this is the only method of travel through it.
Genjutsu Tree Village
Although the village does not train its own shinobi, it is a location other countries send their shinobi to practice dealing with genjutsu, as the forest surrounding the village are full of trees which create a magnetic field that has genjutsu-like effects on minds. Recently, people who travel to Genjutsu Tree Village do not return. It isn't technically aligned with the Land of Forests, but the Land of Forests allow the residents to remain there, due to the immobile nature of their village.
